Haleakalā rises from Maui’s shoreline to a 10,023-foot summit, crossing an extraordinary range of climates and landscapes along the way. Your private tour follows the Haleakalā Highway through Upcountry Kula and into the national park, with time for overlooks, short walks, native plants, and the vast volcanic scenery of the summit district.

Your local guide adjusts the experience to suit your group and the conditions. Daytime tours can focus on trails and clear summit views, while sunset departures build toward the changing light and colors above the clouds.

Summit conditions: Temperatures can be 30 degrees or more below the coast, and wind or clouds can arrive quickly. Sunset timing and individual stops vary by season, weather, park access, and the selected departure.

Recommended Pickup Times

Door-to-door pickup

Pickup is available from your resort, hotel, condo, cruise-port meeting point, or another agreed location. Our office will confirm the exact pickup time for your area based on the season and selected tour departure.

Cruise guests should call (808) 444-3770 so pickup can be coordinated with the ship schedule.

Typical Itinerary

Start: Pickup from your resort, hotel, condo, or meeting location.

  1. Stop at Safeway in Kahului for snacks, drinks, coffee, and other goodies for the day.
  2. Drive through the rolling hills and farms of Upcountry Maui in Kula.
  3. Climb the Haleakalā Highway with scenic photo stops as conditions allow.
  4. Enter the summit district of Haleakalā National Park.
  5. Visit Hosmer Grove for a short walk and the chance to spot native Hawaiian birds.
  6. Stop at the Haleakalā Visitor Center to learn about the mountain’s geology, ecology, and cultural significance.
  7. Walk the 1.8-mile Halemauʻu Overlook loop on daytime departures when time and conditions permit.
  8. Pause at Leleiwi Overlook for views into the crater and across Maui.
  9. Reach Puʻu ʻUlaʻula, Haleakalā’s 10,023-foot summit and the island’s highest point.
  10. Watch the changing light from Keoneheʻeheʻe Overlook on sunset departures.

Finish: Return to your original pickup point.
